I have completed the manuscript and artwork for my most recent picture book - The Alligator Under My Bed. Now, I am in the process of seeking the representation of a literary agent. I created a "book dummy" to demonstrate how I envision my illustrations and manuscript coming together. Here are the steps that I followed to get to this point:
1) Write the manuscript
2) Create the illustrations - I painted with watercolors
3) Scan the artwork using a high quality scanner
4) Using photo editing software, perfect my illustrations (remove background marks from paper, fix any smudges, etc)
5) Using photo editing software, make a canvas the size of open book pages (in this case 20X8 for the interior pages and 10X8 for the cover)
6) Combine scanned artwork and text boxes to design your pages
7) Save each page as a JPEG
8) Consolidate all of the JPEGs into a PDF using software such as Adobe
